Minari: reflections

I was commissioned by creative powerhouse GUAP to write about Oscar-winning Minari, which has been warming weary hearts since its premiere at Sundance Film Festival in 2020. Let’s celebrate a beautifully crafted family movie with wonderful performances, but I also want to draw attention to some of the broader themes. How director Lee Isaac Chung has managed to make something that feels so personal and yet universal.

“At a time when many of us feel detached from the ones we love, particularly those who have cared for us, the ones who seemed to have aged quicker out of sight, this film reminds us that our shared history – the ups and downs – shapes who we are and are yet to become.”
